An aroma that the lab doesn't measure

Open the bag: the roasted peanut aroma is there, distinct, almost buttery. Open the analysis report: it’s not there. Not among the dominant terpenes, nor anywhere else.

This isn’t a lab error. A GC-FID analysis identifies terpenes—one family of molecules among many. Notes of roasted, milky, or dried fruit belong to different families: esters, pyrazines, and sulfur compounds, present in trace amounts and absent from any standard terpene report.

We publish reports on every batch, and we’ll continue to do so. But a report states what it measures, not what you smell. With this batch more than any other, you’ll have to open the bag.

Character, aroma and texture

This rating won’t tell you much about what you’ll actually smell, and that’s what makes this batch unique. It reveals a woody base, a vegetal freshness, and a roundness—the common foundation of our Swiss indoor strains.

Peanut, however, isn’t listed here. It comes from molecules that a terpene analysis doesn’t detect: those responsible for the toasty and milky notes, which are present in quantities too small and belong to families too diverse to show up here.

The graph is still useful for one thing: it confirms the absence of additives. A natural profile, consistent with the original flower, without the isolated peak that a flavoring terpene would have left.

Do-Si-Dos x Mendo Breath: a line selected for screening

A hash producer doesn't judge a flower the same way a dealer does. What matters isn't how it looks in a bag, but how the trichomes behave when sifted—because that's all that will be left afterward.

Do-Si-Dos delivers density: its buds are literally frosted. Mendo Breath brings aromatic complexity and the gourmet notes that give this cross its name. From the hybrid, we selected the CBD-rich phenotype, preserving the resin and aromas of the original strain.

But the decisive factor lies elsewhere: these trichomes are dense and not very sticky. For a flower user, this is a minor detail. For us, it’s what makes the difference between a clean extraction and a clogged sieve. A sticky trichome clumps together, clogs the mesh, and carries plant material with it; a dry trichome falls cleanly through.

This flower didn’t become resin by chance. It was chosen for that very purpose.

Grown in Valais, sifted on site

Our Moroccan resins are tied to a specific location. A plot of land, an elevation, a season—change any one of these three, and the profile changes along with it.

Here, there is no “terroir.” Temperature, humidity, cycle, nutrition: every parameter is controlled, and the same set of settings will yield the same result from one cycle to the next. That’s the advantage of indoor growing—reproducibility replaces location.

Lighting combines HPS and LED rather than choosing just one. HPS builds floral density, while LED boosts trichome yield and aromatic finesse. Using both costs more than sticking with just one—which is why most growers choose one over the other.

This consistency comes at a price. Electricity, labor, land, and regulations: growing hemp in Switzerland is structurally more expensive than elsewhere. It would be more profitable to import inexpensive flower, screen it here, and label the packaging “Swiss made”—which is what part of the market does.

Hand-harvesting at the peak of trichome maturity, gentle hand-trimming—mechanical trimming would strip the resin along with the leaves—slow drying for ten to fifteen days, followed by curing in airtight containers. Drying is the stage where most crops are ruined, far more so than during cultivation.

Extraction is done using a P5000 pollinator in Valais.

What a report measures—and what it leaves out

A GC-FID analysis identifies cannabinoids and terpenes. That’s already a lot—enough to detect adulteration, the addition of an isolate, or a synthetic terpene. But that’s not all.

The molecules responsible for the toasty and milky notes belong to other families and do not appear on any standard terpene report. The aroma of this batch is therefore invisible here, yet perfectly real in the bag.

What the sieve lets through

Like any unprocessed dry sift, this resin contains a fraction of plant material. The sieve separates the trichomes from the rest of the plant; it does not isolate them completely—and that’s by design.

A final electrostatic sifting process would remove this residue, retaining only the trichome heads. But concentrating the heads concentrates everything they contain, including THC: the legal limit would be exceeded. What the sieve allows through is therefore precisely what enables this resin to comply with regulations without any cutting or dilution.

Sensory profile: roasted peanut, woody undertones

On the nose

Peanut comes through first, distinct, more toasty than sweet. It’s accompanied by a buttery roundness, almost milky. Underneath, a subtle woody note and a hint of vegetal freshness—the component measured by the analysis report.

Upon vaporization

Between 180 and 200 °C, the roasted note persists and gains depth. This is where the difference from a flavored resin becomes clear: an added aroma either evaporates instantly or takes on a chemical quality, whereas this one lingers and evolves.

In hand

Supple, slightly sticky, easy to crumble. Fine trichomes, a result of indoor cultivation. The color is light, with golden tones.

A rich flavor isn't necessarily an added flavor

It’s a valid concern. In this market, most resins that smell like cookies, vanilla, or candied fruit have been flavored—with synthetic terpenes sprayed on after extraction, if not something worse.

Two things set a natural aroma apart. It’s already present in the flower, and you can verify this: the flower is for sale right next to it. And it doesn’t leave an isolated peak on the terpene profile, whereas an added flavor is immediately detectable by an abnormally high concentration of a single molecule in the middle of an otherwise flat profile.

Our report shows no such peak. Nor does it show peanut—because that aroma comes from molecules the test doesn’t measure. These two findings are compatible, and that’s precisely what distinguishes a plant-derived aroma from a synthetic one.

It's natural, and you can verify it for yourself: the original flower is for sale on this site, and it smells the same. An added aroma can also be detected in the terpene profile, in the form of an abnormally high concentration of a specific molecule in the middle of an otherwise flat profile. Ours shows no such thing.

Because a GC-FID analysis identifies terpenes, and the toasty or milky notes come from other families of molecules—esters, pyrazines, sulfur compounds. They are present in trace amounts and do not appear on any standard terpene report, regardless of the laboratory. The aroma is real; it’s simply not measured by this report.

Because the concentration depends on genetics and the fineness of the sifting, not on the quality of the work. This batch has a lower CBD content than our other resins but a higher terpene content than our Amnesia. Most importantly, it has an aroma that none of our other batches offer. A number is just a number—it doesn’t do it justice.

CBN forms when THC breaks down due to time, heat, or light. This batch underwent extended curing, which rounds out the flavor profile and leaves this trace: 0.15%. This is the downside of a long curing process. We’re disclosing this because a published report is only meaningful if we don’t cherry-pick what we show.

Based on the lab report, almost none: same strains, same growing conditions, nearly identical terpene profiles. But as soon as you open the bag, it’s a whole different story. Amnesia is herbaceous and fresh, while Peanut Butter is rich and toasty. This is the best example of what a lab report can’t tell you.
