On paper, this batch should smell like citrus. Harlequin provides the cannabinoid foundation, while Lemon adds the signature lemony aroma. It’s a hybrid, and that’s what the name implies.
The analysis tells a different story. Limonene—the molecule responsible for the lemon scent—peaks at 0.08%. What dominates, at 0.62%, is selinadiene: a woody, resinous terpene present at three times the level of the next highest compound. The soil in Ketama has taken precedence over the genetics planted there.
This isn’t a breeding flaw; it’s simply what this terroir does to everything entrusted to it. So don’t expect this batch to have the distinct citrus note of lowland resin—instead, look for a full-bodied, dry base with a freshness that comes from pine rather than citrus.
Look at the first bar in the chart below, then the second. The difference is significant: the top terpene is present in nearly three times the amount of the one that follows it. It’s a single-peak profile, and that peak is woody.
Everything else is arranged below, at levels close to one another: a fresh pine note that rises to the forefront of the nose, a hint of pepper, a roundness that softens it, and a subtle fruitiness. None of these terpenes tries to dominate—they complement the base without contradicting it.
This is the opposite of a citrus profile, where the top note dominates and the base note follows. Here, the base note takes the lead, and you have to let it unfold.
Harlequin is one of the strains historically bred for cannabidiol, at a time when virtually all breeding efforts were moving in the opposite direction. It serves as the foundation for several strains in the lineup.
What this cross contributes is not an aroma—it’s a ratio. Analysis of this batch shows 20.8% CBD and 0.93% THC—twenty-two times more of one than the other. This ratio isn’t achieved through extraction—it’s determined in the field, through the selection of plants.
Lemon was supposed to provide the second signature. It’s present, but subtle: the terroir had other plans.
The word refers to two distinct realities that are often confused. First, a village nestled in the middle of the forest, at the foot of Djebel Tidirhine—the highest peak in the Rif Mountains, at 2,456 meters. Second, a much larger forest known as the Ketama region, which stretches across slopes and elevations that have little in common.
This distinction is by no means merely academic. Two plots within this same region can yield resins with contrasting characteristics depending on their elevation on the slope: our lots No. 0019 and No. 0020 grow in Ounas Edin, on the same mountainside, at different elevations—and their profiles have almost nothing in common.
What these plots impart is a base note. Resinous, dry, slightly woody—and particularly pronounced in this lot, which has the highest concentration of this note in our entire range. It’s not the genetics that produce it: it’s found, to varying degrees, in varieties that have nothing in common.
No. 0018 is a clear example of this: a strain named after a citrus fruit, whose analysis is dominated by a woody compound at 0.62%.

The cannabinoid content of this batch isn’t the highest in the line, and that’s not what matters here. What sets it apart is something else: 2.2% terpenes—a level few resins reach—which explains its lingering aftertaste.
The laboratory classifies the sample as “pollinat”—the technical term for resin obtained through dry sifting, as opposed to water- or solvent-based methods.

Nothing fruity at first. The initial impression is dry and full-bodied—wood, resin, and a hint of minerality. You have to let the ingot open up for a few seconds for a freshness to emerge, closer to pine needles than citrus zest. The citrus note comes only afterward, and it remains in the background.
Pine takes the lead—it’s alpha-pinene, the second terpene in the mix. The woody base follows immediately behind and lingers throughout. On the finish, a hint of pepper, then a subtle, almost floral note, rounded out by bisabolol.
Firmer than the Bab Berred batches, less oily to the touch. The ingot breaks cleanly rather than stretching, leaving a fine powder on the fingers. The color leans toward deep brown, without the golden highlights of lighter resins
The label sells itself. It appears on resins produced hundreds of kilometers away—sometimes on other continents—and no one ever checks.
That’s why every batch is sent to the lab before going on sale, and why the report is available for review before purchase rather than after. An analysis doesn’t prove origin—but it does prove composition, and a resin that’s been cut or flavored won’t pass the test.
Because the name comes from the genetics, not the result. Lemon is one of the two parents in the cross. But analysis shows limonene at only 0.08%, compared to a woody terpene at 0.62%: the Ketama terroir has taken over. We’re keeping the strain’s name because it reflects what was actually planted, even if the bud tells a different story.
HQ is short for Harlequin, the parent strain. It is one of the strains historically selected for cannabidiol, and it is found in several products in the line. It does not have a distinctive aroma but offers a specific ratio: in this case, 20.8% CBD to 0.93% THC.
The two do not increase in tandem. The cannabinoid content depends primarily on genetics and the fineness of the sifting; the terpene content depends on growing conditions and the care taken during drying. This batch is slightly lower in CBD than others but significantly higher in terpenes—it’s this latter figure that accounts for its lingering aftertaste.
The terroir. No. 0017 comes from Bab Berred and offers a fruity, rounded profile, with mango taking precedence over citrus. No. 0018 comes from Ketama: the woody notes dominate here, while citrus remains in the background. Same extraction method, same region—yet two results that have almost nothing in common.
This isn't the one we'd recommend first. Its woody profile takes a little getting used to, and it may come as a surprise to those expecting a fruity or citrusy aroma. For a first taste, No. 0013 or No. 0017 are more approachable.
